We found 3T Quan Nuong while rummaging through our guidebook for restaurants near the Dong Khoi area where we spent most of our time in Saigon. It doesn’t take a lot to sell me on barbecue of any kind, but cook at your table barbecue in a roof garden pretty much demanded my attention. How could we go anywhere else? See the food after the jump.

The restaurant is right around the corner from the Sun Wah Tower, one of the handful of sky scrapers in the area. We climbed the steps up past another restaurant, The Temple Club – also recommended by our guidebook – and out onto the partially covered rooftop space that reminded me more of a beer garden that I had expected.

Large picnic tables around us were filled with rowdy groups speaking English and German and who knows what else.
As with most Asian barbecue, the meal is better with a larger group, thus allowing for a wider selection of food to try out. Since it was just the two of us, we bee-lined for the recommended dish, the barbecued beef. Honestly, after eating that, I didn’t care about missing the rest of the menu. It was so good all I could think of was more of the same.

The beef was scented thoroughly with citrusy lemongrass. I never expect beef to so strongly seasoned, so each bite was a surprise.
There were sauces and dips and even a lime with seasoned salt on the side just to enhance the beef more, but if didn’t need it. Just thinking about the meal is making me crave it some more.
